Today lets talk a little about coconut water. Is Coconut Water a Natural Health Drink? My wife and I drink it after a long walk whenever possible to replace lost electrolytes. Because I like my coconut water very cold, we actually keep a couple of trimmed coconuts on the lower shelf of or refrigerator about 50 percent of the time.

  • It is a real treat to be able to get it “fresh from the coconut” all year
    here in Mexico. There are a few good brands of canned coconut water in the
    states, however if you live near a Mexican market, check with them as sometimes
    they carry the actual coconut.

  • ChefChaney…. hey thanks for jotting all these benefits and facts wonderfully… enjoyed reading it and yes I have to agree with Amy for some it is just a dream to drink coconut water right out of the fridge… but IT IS A MUST for pregnant women… it works wonders and is absolutely healthy…

  • It is a lot easier when you have coconut trees on the property. Each tree yeilds about 40 to 45 coconuts about ever 4 months. There is never a shortage of coconuts in this part of the country. They are best when harvested just a little before fully ripe. We clean the coconut to the point that with a pairing knife you can open the top and insert a straw. Then we chill two or three in the frig. We eat some of the coconut, I dry some and plan to make some coconut flour from the dried coconut after i do a little more research. When we have people and there are just to much coconut to use it all, we split open the coconut shell and put the shells with the coconut in with the chickens……they love coconut. It’s the same with watermelon. When we have watermelon, half is for us and half is for the chickens

  • Chef, you’re killing me here! Fresh coconuts in the ‘fridge, just to chill the water for your drinking pleasure! We can only dream of such delicacies here in the Midwest. This is a packed post and you’ve listed some fascinating reasons to drink coconut water, and indeed, to eat more coconut. It puts in my mind a fabulous coconut and white chocolate cupcake recipe that Amalia makes now and then . . I may have to ask her to make me some. 🙂
